Stages of Children's Dentistry

Infants to 12-months old

Lip-ties and tongue-ties can affect how children eat and speak, interfere with breastfeeding and impact the overall health of your child. Often, the condition resolves itself, but it can cause difficulties in the meantime.

Tongue ties can restrict an infant's oral movement, which may render breastfeeding difficult for a baby, as well as being painful for the mother. Fortunately, there are treatments available.

We see infants from one week old on up for these conditions.

Your Baby's 1st Year

We recommend your baby's 1st dental visit be around when they get their first tooth (usually around 6 months). If your baby falls and hits their tooth, its recommended to check their tooth as soon as you can get them to the dentist.

You can keep their new teeth clean by using a warm wash cloth each day.

Its recommended to not have them sucking on juice in a bottle for long period of time.

1 - 3 Years Old

Olivia loves coming to see Dr. Coplin! She will sit in the chair with the iPad and play. She is learning that coming to the dentist can be fun, too!

4 - 11 Years Old

We know that kids need help learning the best ways to keep their teeth free of sugar and plaque bugs!

Their permanent teeth are now growing and will push their baby teeth out causing them to lose their first primary teeth.

Visit our tooth brushing station and learn tips for kids and parents too!

12 - 15 yrs

Pre-Teens/Teens

Around your child's 12th birthday, their 1st molars begin to erupt.

Teeth may look like they don't have enough room to fit in the mouth as the jaws are growing with child.

This may be a time of mixed dentition where kids are losing many baby teeth and now have most of their permanent teeth.

16+ Teens and Wisdom Teeth

Around 16 years old 2nd molars & wisdom teeth are forming (see x-ray below).

As these teeth are forming they can create tooth pain if they become impacted in the jaw.

If teeth are crowded, they can become difficult to clean and affect a teens confidence in their smile. We can provide tooth colors aligners like Inivisalign.

 What is full mouth reconstruction?

Full mouth reconstruction means dental treatments that will affect all of your child's mouth; the process, therefore, can require multiple procedures over the course of several months or years. Typical treatments include removal of tooth decay and placement of tooth colored fillings and restoring your child's broken teeth with crowns or composite veneers.

Of course, you know that every child's situation is different. That's why we’ll take the time to discuss your available treatment options in order to develop the most effective and suitable plan for your little one.
